EA doesn’t care about people that aren’t investors. Eliminating Kaepernick’s name from tunes in Madden two years in a row reveals it. Businesses don’t want one to defend themlet their lawyers do that work. EDIT: Let me be clear. I’m all for calling a spade a spade and being happy when I am surprised by something such as this. But we shouldn’t praise a business for reaching the absolute bare minimum. You aren’t trendy and moral for thanking companies for not spitting on you. We ought to praise firms who show patterns of pleasure. Feel free to disagree, but don’t act like this specific case is this incredibly complex morally-grey circumstance. I mean I believed there were pretty strict regulations on whose names and likeliness can be used in Madden. Just like Belicheck and Payton are not in Madden because they are not a part of the NFLCA and that is who EA has a contract with. They may have to cover Kap if his title is used and are likely avoiding that. That and Kap isn’t just welcome from the NFL planet (not talking about lovers ) anymore.
They backpeddled and apologized if they were called out. They do not have rights to Kap’s likeness from the game but they can cite him in the tune (as they have with plenty of other people figures in other tunes ). The fact that they did so 2 years in a row indicates it wasn’t an innocent oversight but a genuine choice to collaborate using a fundamentally racist act of collusion inside the NFL. I’m not defending a provider. I am not saying EA is some bastion of justice. Many people in general (not just reddit) can’t see beyond black and white. Cynicism inspires outrage and outrage inspires clicks. Cynicism inspires outrage and outrage inspires clicks. That is why negativity floats to the top in most social websites. This is a major element. Youtube for one has done studies, since it’s a huge part of their company and they would like to understand it. There has been testimony to congress about it that I’ve watched but can not find right now. What they need is engagement and the more negatively styled something is that the more folks will click it as it comes up on your recommendations.
Businesses don’t need you to defend themlet their lawyers perform that job. “Companies do not need one to defend them”, but attacking companies when they are doing the proper thing is necessary and productive? It does not matter if it’s for PR reasons, they’re still increasing awareness to this problem and hurting no one by doing this process. Meanwhile the people who see this as an opportunity to attack are just perpetuating a negative feeling of constant complaining. It’s not so much about”defending companies” but about assaulting this naturally negativity. So you’re really just adding to the man’s debate by doing precisely what he described. They’re not doing anything though. They simply released a statement full of empty rhetoric. You understand what doing some thing is? Not making another Madden game since the NFL penalized players enjoy Kaepernick for taking a knee. That would be impressive. But we all know that’s not what is going to occur.
The simple fact that folks here are really behaving like this is a meaningful gesture is indeed fucking baffling. EA literally moved out of its way to wash his title from their games two decades straight, but this thread is making it seem like they have contributed millions. It is pure fucking insanity. It’s the definition of slacktivism. It’d be more fair when they had said nothing in any way. Instead, they are gonna push a bullshit PR statement about how they stand with the black community and then in a couple months turn around and sell a product featuring an organization which has a history of stifling and punishing black voices. I never mentioned”Let us attack a company for doing the ideal thing.” My point, which I have tried to clarify in an edit, would be that we should not PRAISE companies for doing the bare minimum of human decency when they have shown in the past to be contrary to the thing they’re claiming. Actions speak louder than words. It is possible to remain optimistic of things looking up, which I frequently am. If your buddy hurts your feelings, then they need to regain your trust. You do not thank them every time from then on whenever they are being nice.
